Individuals who wish to work as Nominated Supervisors in Asbestos Removal and are required to supervise the removal process for friable (Class A) and non-friable (Class B) asbestos containing material (ACM) must complete this course. Nominated supervisors are required for a company’s removal license to be maintained. That is, no removal can proceed without a nominated supervisor for each and every licensed removal job.

What are the essential elements of the course?
- Plan for asbestos removal
- Prepare site for removal including instructions, training, competencies, notifications, daily air monitoring, PPE, equipment serviceability, and recognition of utilities/services
- Supervise testing, compliance/documentation checks, and communication with Licensed Asbestos Assessor
- Oversee removal and decontamination including steps involved in the Asbestos Removal Control Plan
- Clean up work and appropriate transport and disposal
- Clearance to re-occupy requirements
- Use of documentation in line with regulatory requirements
- Supervise and support team members including appropriate training, timely and efficient use of resources, communication, and team building

On successful completion you will understand:
- Different asbestos materials, interpret and communicate the contents of asbestos registers, develop asbestos removal control plans (ARCP) and coordinate equipment and personnel for effective and compliant removal.
- The communication required to conform with the legal and regulatory obligations including consultation with all parties who are required to be notified for asbestos removal.
- The supervisor’s role to plan for asbestos removal and prepare the site for removal.
- The importance of testing, compliance and documentation in consultation with the licensed asbestos assessor and the asbestos removalist.
- The supervisor’s role in recognizing and communicating to workers site-specific risks associated with asbestos removal, and to effectively discuss strategies for avoiding those risks.
- The supervisor’s role to oversee removal and decontamination processes including the use of correct tools, equipment, PPE appropriate for the project.
- The supervisor’s role to manage and support team members.
- Clearance to re-occupy requirements including interpretation of air monitoring results/actions including the supervisor’s role in final clean-up and housekeeping.
- Implementation of the correct Emergency Procedures when dealing with asbestos incidents.
- The process to safely and compliantly supervise the removal of asbestos including implementation of appropriate controls.
- Workplace authority notifications, consultation, and record keeping.

What do I need before I start?
To start this program, you must have:
- A good understanding of English in reading, writing and communication.
- A Whitecard (Australia) or SiteSafe / Site Safety Passport (NZ).
- Successful completion of the non-friable and/or the friable removal course.
- Participants should have construction industry experience
What do I need to bring?
We need to see your White Card or Site Safety Card (passport). As long as you have completed all the enrolment details you won’t need to bring anything else.
We provide all training material, resource references, and a pen to write notes. We normally supply lunch, depending on the venue – check upon registration.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Delivery
Delivery is conducted in a blended format consisting of: Pre-course reading, pre-course test, plus Face to Face Training – Written and Practical Assessments (total of approx. 16 hours).
Assessment
Assessment includes a practical plus a written test with some multiple choice and written answers.
What do I receive upon successful completion?
A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment and Evidence Card are issued. The card can be conveniently kept in your wallet, readily available to demonstrate to regulators and clients your compliance with training.

What this course does and does not do?
- This training fulfils the basic skills and knowledge requirements in supervision of asbestos removal according to the prescribed training course number.
- This course does not represent a removal licence or permission to remove asbestos containing material without a license and/or government notification. Asbestos Removal Licences are issued by the regulator (e.g. your Safework / Worksafe authority) who require the license holder, in turn, to have suitably trained workers to perform removal work under trained and experienced nominated supervisors.
- To become a nominated or registered supervisor for a licensed removalist you must also satisfy experience criteria as set by your workplace regulator authority, usually 1 year removing non-friable and 3 years removing friable material.
- This course does not represent on-site verification of competency, experience validation, or site assessment for a nominated supervisor role.
