Who is this course for?
Individuals who are currently looking at entering the construction / asbestos industry and wishing to work with asbestos and to become an Asbestos Removalist (Class B) must complete this course. Typically this includes working on asbestos cement products like wall lining and roof cladding, and ranges to electrical backing boards and vinyl floor tiles.
Why should I do this course?
- This course provides the basic skills and knowledge necessary to remove non-friable asbestos.
- This accredited training course is required for all asbestos removal workers when dealing with non-friable asbestos greater than 10m2, under this prescribed accredited course number – conforming with both Australia and New Zealand regulation training requirements.
- In addition, all those performing unlicensed removal work, that is working on less than 10m2 of non-friable asbestos material, are required to be trained. This training package satisfies the “suitable and adequate” training requirement prescribed in legislation for this work activity.
- This course provides the foundation training necessary before Asbestos Supervisor Training can be undertaken relative to non-friable work.

On successful completion you will understand:
- The key health risks associated with exposure to asbestos.
- The basics of asbestos identification, asbestos risk assessment methodology, asbestos surveys and asbestos management plans, and pre-demolition assessment.
- Historical uses, applications and potential sources of asbestos in the workplace.
- The fundamentals on how to safely remove and dispose of non-friable asbestos.
- Implementation of control measures for the removal of non–friable asbestos.
- The correct application and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to assure minimum exposure with asbestos including decontamination procedures.
- The tools and equipment necessary including basic maintenance requirements.
- Safety requirements to assure minimum risk of exposure to asbestos fibres for yourself and others.
- Legal obligations under Asbestos legislation and navigation of approved asbestos codes.
- Who needs an asbestos removal licence?
- Clearance to re-occupy requirements including interpretation of air monitoring results/actions.
- Implementation of the correct Emergency procedures when working with asbestos.
- The requirements contained in the Asbestos Removal Control Plan (ARCP).
- Workplace authority notifications, consultation, and record keeping.

What do I need before I start?
To start this program, you must have:
- A good understanding of English in reading, writing and communication.
- A Whitecard (Australia) or SiteSafe / Site Safety Passport (NZ).
What do I need to bring?
We need to see your White Card or Site Safety Card (passport). As long as you have completed all the enrolment details you won’t need to bring anything else.
We provide all training material, resource references, and a pen to write notes. We normally supply lunch, depending on the venue – check upon registration.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Delivery
Delivery is conducted in a blended format consisting of: Pre-course reading, pre-course test, plus Face to Face Training – Written and Practical Assessments (total of approx. 16 hours).
Assessment
Assessment includes a practical plus a written test with some multiple choice and written answers.
What do I receive upon successful completion?
A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment and Evidence Card are issued. The card can be conveniently kept in your wallet, readily available to demonstrate to regulators and clients your compliance with training.

What this course does and does not do?
- This training fulfils the basic skills and knowledge requirements in removal of non-friable asbestos according to the prescribed training course number.
- This course does not represent a removal licence or permission to remove asbestos containing material without a license and/or government notification. Asbestos Removal Licences are issued by the regulator (e.g. your Safework / Worksafe authority) who require the license holder, in turn, to have suitably trained workers to perform removal work with registered supervisors.
- This course does not represent on-site verification of competency or site assessment.
