Who is this course for?
Any person who currently holds a Class B (Asbestos ticket) intending to work for a Class A friable removalist must complete this course prior to commencement of that activity. Typically this includes working on insulation products like fire proofing and pipe lagging, and ranges to soft linings and asbestos backed vinyl floor coverings.
These asbestos containing materials are considered un-bonded, easily disturbed, and usually with high asbestos content. This also includes items already crumbled, in a dusty form, or readily made airborne.
Why should I do this course?
- This course provides the basic skills and knowledge necessary to remove friable asbestos.
- This accredited training course is required for all asbestos removal workers when dealing with friable asbestos, under this prescribed accredited course number – conforming with both Australia and New Zealand regulation training requirements.
Entry requirements
The prerequisites to this course are:
- A good understanding of English language (minimum year 9 level literacy/numeracy and communication)
- Statements of Attainment or transcript for:
- CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (WhiteCard) OR
- CPCWHS1001A – Work safely in the construction industry AND
- CPCCDE3014 – Non-Friable Asbestos Removal (Class B)
- Photo ID on the day (driver’s license/passport or similar)

What are the essential elements of the course?
- Preparation for friable asbestos removal
- Set up of the asbestos removal area and removal zone including enclosing the work area with a bubble
- Understanding smoke testing and negative air set up
- The process involved to safely remove friable asbestos
- Clean up work and appropriate transport and disposal
- The correct personal decontamination process
- Clearance to re-occupy requirements

On successful completion you will understand:
- The key health risks associated with exposure to asbestos.
- The basics of asbestos identification, asbestos risk assessment methodology, asbestos surveys and asbestos management plans, and pre-demolition assessment.
- Historical uses, applications and potential sources of asbestos in the workplace.
- The fundamentals on how to safely remove and dispose of friable asbestos.
- Implementation of control measures for the removal of friable asbestos.
- The correct application and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to assure minimum exposure with asbestos including decontamination procedures.
- The tools and equipment necessary including basic maintenance requirements.
- Safety requirements to assure minimum risk of exposure to asbestos fibres for yourself and others.
- Legal obligations under Asbestos legislation and navigation of approved asbestos codes.
- Who needs an asbestos removal licence?
- Clearance to re-occupy requirements including interpretation of air monitoring results/actions.
- Implementation of the correct Emergency procedures when working with asbestos.
- The requirements contained in the Asbestos Removal Control Plan (ARCP).
- Workplace authority notifications, consultation, and record keeping.
- The additional stringent requirements over and above Class B Non-Friable Asbestos Removal.

What do I need to bring?
Photo ID on the day (driver’s license/passport or similar).
We provide all training material, resource references, and a pen to write notes. As long as you have completed all the enrolment details you won’t need to bring anything else.
Before attending you must have completed:
- Your pre-learning quizzes. You are guided through this process when enrolling on-line. This forms part of your overall assessment.
- Where you are required to have prerequisite course training, you must have provided proof of this. This is all done via the enrolment process where you are prompted to upload evidence using a Statement of Attainment (Certificate) or Training Transcript from your USI.gov.au account
Course Delivery and Assessment
Delivery
Delivery is conducted in a blended format consisting of: Pre-course reading, pre-course test, plus Face to Face Training – Written and Practical Assessments (total of approx. 16 hours).
Assessment
Assessment includes a practical plus a written test with some multiple choice and written answers.

What do I receive upon successful completion?
A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment and Evidence Card are issued. The card can be conveniently kept in your wallet, readily available to demonstrate to regulators and clients your compliance with training.

What this course does and does not do?
- This training fulfils the basic skills and knowledge requirements in removal of friable asbestos according to the prescribed training course number.
- This course does not represent a removal licence or permission to remove asbestos containing material without a license and/or government notification. Asbestos Removal Licences are issued by the regulator (e.g. your Safework / Worksafe authority) who require the license holder, in turn, to have suitably trained workers to perform removal work with registered supervisors.
- This course does not represent on-site verification of competency or site assessment.
