What are the essential elements of the course?
The Asbestos Assessors Course specifies the outcomes required for assessors to visually inspect and use a range of measuring devices to undertake the monitoring of airborne asbestos fibres in the workplace as an integral part of identifying hazards, assessing risks, monitoring the effectiveness of controls, and ensuring that the workplace is visually free of asbestos fibres prior to re-occupation.
The unit includes the planning of the monitoring process, the selection and use of processes and air-monitoring equipment, the conduct of the assessment process, and the proper handling and interpretation of results.
The main elements are:
- Plan for assessment process of asbestos removal.
- Prepare to collect site measurements and other data.
- Use measuring devices to collect site information and data.
- Complete the monitoring process.
- Evaluate and document results of monitoring process according to accredited laboratory requirements.

- Scientific techniques for measuring, testing and evaluating air-monitoring results and reports, including principles of fibre counting and analysis of bulk samples.
- Techniques associated with containing and removing asbestos, including use of large and small-scale enclosures for different sites, use of negative pressure exhaust units, encapsulation methods, use of decontamination units.
- Asbestos removal requirements including clearance to re-occupy criteria.
- Documentation required for clearance inspections following application of rigorous professional assessment and using specified wording defined in regulations.
- The types, characteristics, uses and limitations of plant and equipment involved in enclosing and removing asbestos including performance/maintenance criteria.
- Tracking and disposal of waste.

What’s involved in achieving your Asbestos Assessor Certificate?
The Asbestos Assessors Course consists of two nationally recognised units of competency:
- CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (done through external RTO)
- CPCCDE5001 Conduct Air Monitoring and clearance Inspections for Asbestos Removal Work / CPCCBC5014A Conduct Asbestos Assessment Associated with Removal

We provide all training material, resource references, and a pen to write notes.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Delivery
Delivery is conducted in a blended format consisting of: Pre-course reading, pre-course test, plus Face to Face Training – Written and Practical Assessments (total of approx. 24 hours).
Assessment
Assessment includes a practical plus a written test with some multiple choice and written answers.
What do I receive upon successful completion?
A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment and Evidence Card are issued. The card can be conveniently kept in your wallet, readily available to demonstrate to regulators and clients your compliance with training.

What this course does and does not do?
- This training fulfils the basic knowledge requirements to work within Australia and New Zealand as an Asbestos Assessor. You are required to hold a current national ‘Asbestos Assessors’ certificate and License to be allowed to inspect and issue clearances certificates for Class A Friable asbestos removal in the workplace. For class B removal, as a minimum, you are required to be appropriately trained and experienced in performing inspection clearances as an Independent Competent Person. A Licensed Asbestos Assessor is regarded as a more experienced and qualified person and can perform clearances on all Class B removal work.
- This course does not represent an Asbestos Assessor Licence or authority to inspect as an Independent Competent Person. Your Asbestos Assessors License is issued by your State or Territory Regulator based on combined qualifications and experience.
- This course does not represent on-site verification of competency or site assessment and does not abdicate your responsibilities under WHS regulations.
