FAQs
Enrolment
It’s simple, click on the COURSES Tab, click into the Course you would like to complete, then the date you would like to attend and start completing your application.
If you have any questions as to which course you should be completing, simply email or call us to discuss.
There is no obligation when you are simply initiating enquiries or registering your interest.
To enrol in Vet Accredited courses, students must have basic English reading, writing and speaking skills.
The LLN Quiz will be sent to you as part of applying for the course.
The level of basic English required is similar to what is expected in a typical construction workplace.
The LLN Quiz may also help identify if you are eligible for support and assistance.
We are always trying to cater for our clients by adding courses, altering dates, or organising alternate venues to help accommodate your requirements. It’s quite common. Talk to us.
No problem. Best thing is to speak to our Training Coordinators. They are used to helping out with dates, locations, group enrolments, etc.
Yes, individual bookings for advertised training will need to go through the website booking system by going to the course page, and clicking on ‘Apply Now’.
However, for group bookings please contact us so we can coordinate group enrolments.
Yes, but we do have some minimum venue requirements to deliver the courses. So let’s talk it through. We do this quite often for removalists, councils, building and infrastructure companies, and trade groups.
No problem, we’re here to help. We have years’ of experience helping people with courses from enrolment through to certification. Call us to discuss.
Yes, we can sort the details out as we go and at least reserve your place in an upcoming course. As long as we get all your details before you start the actual course, we are good to go. Our training coordinators are here to help you through the process.
Call us and we will discuss this with you to organise this specifically. Generally, this is not an issue, but obviously it is dependent on successful completion each day for you to progress through the courses.
Unique Student Identifier (USI) numbers
Yes, a USI number is required for accredited Vocational Education Training in Australia.
Please click the link above to either:
- Get your USI for the first time.
- Find your USI if you have forgotten it.
- Reset your password.
- Update your details.
- Check out the VET courses you have done since 2015 via your on-line transcript.
- Login to your student portal.
Click the link above and follow the prompts. You will need two forms of ID like a driver’s license, Medicare card or Australian Passport.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a reference number made up of numbers and letters, unique to each student. A USI Number will stay with you for life, and must be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course you undertake.
This USI allows your completed courses to be linked to your previous and future VET qualifications into a single authenticated transcript, through the National Vocational Education and Training Data Collection.
It therefore prevents you or your employer from losing your training records and allow you to see all of your training results, from all previous training providers, since 2015.
No, there are two courses that we offer that do not require a USI number to register. They include:
- The Working with Asbestos Course – designed for maintenance personnel and tradespeople working with non-friable (bonded) asbestos under 10m2 or working within the vicinity of asbestos (whether friable or non-friable).
- The Asbestos Compliance Course – designed to address the responsibilities of owners/managers or their responsible officers (e.g. PCBU’s and/or their delegates).
These courses are tailored courses for anyone who is not intending to work for a licensed asbestos removalist but requires some minimum training to comply and gain the knowledge required to minimise the likelihood of asbestos exposure in the workplace.
A USI is available for those working within Australia, including those with working visas, and people with New Zealand origins.
New Zealand citizens cannot create a USI using their New Zealand passports until they have arrived in Australia and their passport has been registered with the Australian Department of Immigration.
Yes. That’s exactly what the Unique Student Identifier system was intended for. Please note this only applies to accredited courses completed after the 1st of January 2015 when this system was introduced. Refer to usi.gov.au – Access your transcript.
Entry Requirements – Prerequisites
A prerequisite is a training requirement that you must have before you start a course that you wish to enrol in. You will have to provide evidence of completion of the prerequisite course with a Statement of Attainment or a Transcript. Prerequisites are listed on each course page (if it is required) under the heading “Entry Requirements”.
- A Statement of Attainment is a certificate from a Registered Training Organization (RTO) to prove you have successfully completed a nationally VET accredited course. This is usually a formal certificate with a unique parchment number and full details such as date issued, course name, course code, your details, RTO numbers, and the RTO sign off.
- A Transcript is an official record of all accredited training you have completed AFTER 1st January 2015. This type of training record was devised when the Unique Student Identifier (USI) was first introduced. It is the easiest way to find evidence of all your training since 2015 via usi.gov.au – Access your Transcripts.
The quickest and simplest way is to download your transcript from the usi.gov.au website here or select the search and download option during the online enrolment process.
- If you did the prerequisite course with Asbestos and You, and you have your training card, upload a photo of it when prompted during enrolment and we can validate it from our records. If you can’t find your old training card from us, please let us know if this is the case, so we can check further against our training records.
- If you did the prerequisite training at another Registered Training Organisation (RTO), please contact them to request a copy for the formal Statement of Attainment. All RTO’s are required to keep your records for 30 years, so this should be the most reliable source for older training before 2015. Your employer at the time may also have kept a copy on file but this may be harder to track down.
- Please note: If you need to find a Statement of Attainment for:
- CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card), or
- CPCCOHS1001A – Work safely in the construction industry,
no other white card courses are valid. You cannot use the physical White Card as evidence.
If you cannot find your paper or electronic copy of your Statement of Attainment or it is not visible on your usi.gov.au personal training records, then you will need to complete the pre-requisite course before enrolling. This is usually beneficial, especially if the training you did was done a long time ago.
If you haven’t done the white card course you will have to do this first via a Registered Training Organisation, like Australian Civil and Mining Training, CITC, Master Builders Association, or the Housing Industry Association.
- CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card)
- CPCCOHS1001A – Work safely in the construction industry
No other White Card courses are valid, and in particular white cards issued before 11 May 2009, as these older courses are not nationally recognised.
You are required to provide evidence of your White Card using a copy of Statement of Attainment, and/or if AFTER 1st January 2015, evidence maybe easier to find from your own USI account. Refer to usi.gov.au – Access your Transcripts.
You cannot use the physical White Card as evidence.
- Unfortunately, no. You cannot use the physical card as evidence of previous White Card training. You must be able to provide your formal Statement of Attainment or usi.gov.au transcript as evidence instead, which you should have received at the same time (if it was a accepted/accredited course). This is part of the VET accredited training system governed by the Australian Skills and Qualifications Authority (ASQA). Details, such as the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) number, may be recorded on the physical white card. if the RTO number is the only identifier printed on the card, the RTOs company and contact details can be searched via the RTO five-digit number here. Once contact detail for the old training company is established then you can obtain your formal Statement of Attainment from them.
- If the date noted on the White Card is prior to 11 May 2009, then the course completed will not be a valid or nationally recognised and cannot be accepted as a prerequisite. Cards without RTO detail on them, often fall into this older category of training.
- Courses completed AFTER 1st January 2015 are a lot easier to track down, with your USI account unlocking transcripts of all your training for download. Refer usi.gov.au – Access your Transcripts.
- When it comes to the white card, unfortunately a plastic card is not considered valid as prerequisite evidence. Refer to the above FAQ’s for discussions on white cards.
- You can only use your plastic training card as prerequisite evidence if you did the prerequisite course with us – because we will have a copy of your Statement of Attainment on file. This relates to only three courses that we require prerequisites that we deliver including:
- Asbestos Awareness (course codes 11084NAT or 10675NAT)
- Class B non-friable asbestos removal (course codes CPCCDE3014 or CPCCDE3014A)
- Class A friable asbestos removal (course code CPCCDE3015 or CPCCDE3014A)
In this instance, you will have to upload a photo of your card as evidence when you are prompted during enrolment – i.e. for us to validate against.
- If you did a course elsewhere (e.g., interstate), including the white card course, we will need a copy of your Statement of Attainment or Transcript downloaded from your USI account.
- The exception to the rule is if you require prerequisite evidence of asbestos awareness, Class B, or Class A removal courses then you CAN upload your plastic card during enrolment, IF you did the course with us, at Asbestos and You. We can then validate your photo of your training card against our records system. Simply upload a photo of your card when prompted during the enrolment process.
- In ALL other cases, if you did prerequisite training elsewhere including the White Card course, the Australian Skills and Qualifications Authority (ASQA) will not accept plastic cards as evidence as a prerequisite. ASQA prescribes the format of how certificates are issued, accepted or validated as evidence to ensure the integrity of training with minimum certification standards. Registered Training Organisation (RTO), like us, are required to comply with this level of scrutiny, and that we have checked your credentials properly.
- Cards, at least, can be used as a time reference for training, and possible detail of where the course was conducted. SafeWork Authorities also, for example, will often accept the plastic card, as a matter of convenience if they visit your job site, but only if reasonably current.
- The good news is, if you have a plastic card from a previous training organisation, then the RTO must have provided you a formal Statement of Attainment at that time also – unless they were providing a non-accredited version of training instead. This is a major reason why ASQA require this more formal evidence to check for the accreditation. Regardless, the plastic card should give you an idea of where you did previous training, plus when and who to contact to obtain your formal Statement of Attainment.
- Remember the easiest way to find old training evidence is via your personal training records in usi.gov.au – Access your Transcripts, and downloading your training transcript. USI.gov.au is the place where all your personal VET accredited training records are kept since the system was introduced in 2015.
Need refresher training?
In Victoria, for example, refresher training is required every year for friable removalists and every two years for non-friable removalists.
Irrespective of where you are in Australia, all training is required to be reviewed periodically to ensure it is “suitable and adequate” for the workforce, the built environment, and associated worker activities. This considers the risk of a person working on or in the vicinity of asbestos and silica containing material, often infrequently with varying site scenarios, where skillsets and appropriate training needs to be maintained to minimise the potential of exposures.

Training is the most
fundamental component
in minimising the health risks
from exposure to Asbestos and Silica.
